Omega-3 Fish Oil FAQs
About Omega Cure
- What makes Omega Cure different from other fish oils on the market?
The short answer: freshness, quality, palatability, and purity. For the long answer, visit our "What is Omega Cure?" page.
- Where does Omega Cure come from?
Those “From Norway to Your Doorway” stickers on our packages aren’t kidding. Our fish oil comes from a species of fish known as “saithe” off the coast of Norway. From there it is promptly shipped directly to our headquarters in Venice, Florida, in airtight, frozen drums. Then we personally bottle the oil and ship it to you!
- Why should I buy Omega Cure instead of a cheaper fish oil?
Simple: you get what you pay for. As discussed above, Omega Cure is an exceptional oil of exceptional quality. Moreover, it has a lower cost per gram of EPA/DHA than OmegaRx, Omega Brite, Nordic Naturals, Iceland Health, and Lovaza (formerly Omacor), which is commonly prescribed by doctors to lower triglyceride levels.
That's not all, though. Also keep in mind that reaping the benefits of omega-3 means getting a high dose every day. When you get tired of swallowing oh so many fish oil capsules and tasting the unpleasant "repeats," such consistency becomes a lot harder to maintain, and omega-3's benefits will disappear within a few weeks. With Omega Cure, it's easy to take your fish oil with the necessary regularity.
- How important is fish oil, really?
Taking fish oil is one of the best things you can do for yourself, right up there with exercising and not smoking. You see, your intake of fish oil, which is nature's most potent source of omega-3, must balance out your intake of abundantly used vegetable oil, containing omega-6. But as the modern diet has elevated our omega-6 intake, omega-3 has lagged behind. According to a report from the Harvard University Medical Center, "While our ancestors probably at nearly equal amounts of omega-3 and omega-6 fats, most Westerners today consume 15 to 30 times more of the pro-inflammatory omega-6s from vegetable oils and processed foods than they do the healthy omega-3s from sources like fish and nuts."
This is bad because omega-3 works on a cellular level to improve the efficiency of nutrient intake and waste output. (That's why its benefits are so widespread and varied!) When it's in short supply, though, omega-6 steps in to do the job. And it is really bad at it, leading to poor nutrient exchange in the cells. Sure, omega-6 is good in smaller amounts, but left unchecked, the result is chronic inflammation.
The good news is that when you get your omega-3 levels back up to snuff, just about everything in your body will simply work better, in a variety of significant ways.
- If I eat a lot of fish, I don't need a fish oil supplement, right?
Getting your omega-3 nutrients from fatty fish like salmon, sardines, anchovies, tuna and small mackerel is always the best way to go. But if you’re like 85% of the American population you’re going to need some help in the omega-3 department.
The FDA’s recommendation of two fish meals per week provides significantly less omega-3 than the doses used in major research studies. The reason the FDA doesn’t recommend eating fish five or six times a week like the Inuits in Greenland is the pollution factor. It is a balancing act between getting enough omega-3 to obtain the heart benefits vs. eating unsafe levels of mercury or PCBs (which are filtered out of Omega Cure). There are also two other big variables to keep in mind: only oily, cold water fish like salmon, trout and tuna contain enough omega-3 to write home about. Common “grocery store fish” like tilapia, catfish or sole don’t really qualify. Moreover, how you prepare your fish will influence the quality and quantity of the omega-3s.
In other words, using a supplement like Omega Cure is the best way to be sure you get the omega-3 you need.
- Does it matter whether I get my omega-3 from flax seed oil rather than fish oil.
If you’re already an omega-3 fan, you might be into flaxseed oil. Good news, you’re on the right track. But you’ll get more bang for your bucks with fresh, full-spectrum fish oil, like Omega Cure.
Omega-3 from vegetable sources such as flaxseed or walnuts have only the immature short-chain alpha linolenic acid (ALA). ALA must be converted to the mature long chain EPA/DHA types. These good fats (EPA/DHA) are the ones that put a damper on the inflammation levels in your body. Sure, ALA is helpful, but the great science behind omega-3s has been focused on the health benefits connected to EPA/DHA, not ALA. Moreover, flax and other vegetable based omega-3s are often rich in omega-6s. Overabundant levels of omega-6s cause problems; they block the transformation of ALA to EPA/DHA and, on average 90% of flaxseed omega-3 is lost in the conversion. Ready made EPA/DHA, found in fish oil, allows you to get the right kind of fat to make a health difference that is measurable or observable.
- How can I make it easier to get my effective daily dose of Omega Cure?
The great thing about having your fish oil in a tasteless, liquid form is that you can just drink it straight, or you can mix it in with something else and forget it's even there! Many of our customers like to pour a dash of fruit juice or smoothie in with their fish oil and down it like a shot. You can also mix it in with salad dressing, yogurt, or whatever else you may think of. Just don't add it to anything hot, or try to bake or fry with it - that will result in a fishy taste!
- What is Omega Cure's shelf life?
If your Omega Cure is slightly warm or at room temperature when it arrives, or if you left it on the counter for a day, don't worry - short term exposure is no problem. Just try to minimize the time your bottle spends in sunlight or open to the air. And of course, whenever you're concerned your oil has gone bad, you just have sniff it to find out - Omega Cure that's still fresh has no taste or smell.
- Does Omega Cure have any side effects? Is it safe for everyone?
Because fish oil is a natural substance that provides the omega-3 your body craves, Omega Cure is an extremely safe supplement, completely okay even for children and expectant or nursing mothers. The FDA has classified it as GRAS - Generally Regarded As Safe. (After all, people in Scandinavia have been using good old-fashioned cod liver oil since the 18th century!) People who are allergic to soy also need not worry about the vitamin E content, as a soy allergy targets protein, and fish oil is a fat.
However, Omega Cure does act as a natural blood thinner, so people already on blood thinning medication should consult their doctors first. Customers may also notice that they bruise a little more easily, for the same reason. Still, even for heavy fish oil users, bleeding time usually stays within normal values.
- What is Omega Cure's content of vitamins A and D?
Omega Cure contains 750 IU of vitamin A, about 23% of the recommended daily value for the average adult (3300 IU). It contains virtually no vitamin D.
- Is there a particular time of day I should take Omega Cure?
Because Omega Cure can improve cognitive function and increase energy, we recommend taking it in the morning so your mind can stay sharp and your body awake all day long. Any time of day is fine, however. Taking your Omega Cure with food is also a good idea, as chewing creates enzymes that help your body absorb the oil more quickly.
- How much Omega Cure should I take?
In general, the recommended daily dose of Omega Cure for adults is 2 teaspoons. However, customers with symptoms of arthritis or another inflammatory condition generally use 3 teaspoons (1 tablespoon) and as a result often experience dramatic improvements in both their level of comfort and their range of motion. For babies and children, the dosage should be reduced to 1 or one-half of a teaspoon, depending on size. These dosages match those used in all those research studies that report such incredible improvements from fish oil.
Don't worry too much about "overdosing," though - your body loves omega-3, and even when it's had enough, any adverse effect is unlikely. However, if you experience upset stomach or loose stool, you should probably cut down a little, or split your dose into a few smaller doses taken throughout the day.
- How long do I have to take Omega Cure before I start seeing results?
Omega Cure, like all fish oils, needs about two or three months to fully "kick in." However, you should see improvement in the quality of your hair and fingernails after a week or so, and soon after that your skin will start to look better. From there it just gets better, especially if you couple your supplementation with exercise.
Remember, too, that the changes you experience will be gradual and sometimes subtle. Many customers don't realize how much Omega Cure was helping them until they have to experience "withdrawal"!
- How much will I pay for shipping?
We ship Omega Cure by either UPS or priority mail, depending on which route will reach you the most quickly. This way it will spend minimal time in insulated boxes and enclosed with frozen gel packs keeping it cold - usually two or three days. One, two or three bottles costs $12 to ship; So you save on shipping by ordering two or three bottles at a time. Please call 1-866-414-0188 to inquire about large orders or overnight shipping.

The cookie also has 35% of the daily recommended calcium intake in the form of calcium citrate, which is considered to be the best kind for bio-availability. When combined with vitamin D, another component of the Omega Cookie, calcium has been known to help fight obesity and improve heart health, in addition to its usually bone-strengthening benefits.
